Stratobel safety glass

High-end safety

Specially developed for high-security applications, Stratobel – long marketed in the DACH region under the name ipasafe – is our comprehensive range of safety and laminated safety glass products offering active, passive and structural safety properties. Its protective performance is based on polyvinyl butyral (PVB) interlayers placed between two or more panes of glass. If the glass breaks, most fragments remain adhered to the interlayer so that the pane stays in the frame. This protects people nearby from injury and also provides passive safety by helping to prevent break-ins. The level of protection depends on the glass thickness and the construction, meaning the number and type of PVB interlayers used.

In certification tests, the performance of each glass configuration is assessed with regard to ageing resistance (EN 12543), resistance to soft-body impact (EN 12600), and resistance to heavy impact and burglary attack (EN 356). Additional functions can be achieved by incorporating special PVB interlayers or specially tinted float glass and coated products.

  • EN 14449 for laminated safety glass (VSG)

Ü mark — requirements of German Building Rules List A

All Stratobel/ipasafe safety glass products comply with the requirements of German Building Rules List A (BRL-A). The respective Ü mark confirms that the product complies with the requirements of BRL-A.

pyrobel

Pyrobel fire-resistant glass

Reliable fire protection for interior and façade applications

With Pyrobel, AGC offers the world’s largest product portfolio of fire-resistant glazing, available as cuttable laminated glass in dimensions up to 225 x 321 centimetres, as well as tailor-made and pre-assembled insulating glass units with fire protection, thermal insulation, solar control, acoustic insulation and numerous safety features.

The laminated glass units incorporate intumescent, invisible interlayers. In the event of fire, these react to form a fire-protection barrier that prevents the spread of flames and reduces heat transfer. The aim is always to provide a high level of passive fire protection for reliable protection of people and property against fire, smoke and heat. In the event of fire, the glazing limits damage to the building, protects escape routes, facilitates access for emergency services and preserves the stability of structural elements – significantly extending intervention time.

Third-party verified Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) are now also available for Pyrobel, including the new “Low-Carbon Pyrobel” variants, which offer identical fire-resistance performance with a significantly lower Global Warming Potential (GWP), thereby contributing less to global warming.

CE marking — requirement of the applicable standards

CE marking confirms that the product complies with the requirements of the applicable standards.

Pyrobel fire-resistant glass is subjected to fire-resistance testing in accordance with the following standards:

  • EN 1363 (general requirements for fire-resistance testing)
  • EN 1364-1 (for non-loadbearing walls)
  • EN 1364-3 (for curtain walling)
  • EN 1365-2 (for roofs and floors)
  • EN 1634 (for doors and shutters)

In addition, the following national standards apply in Germany:

  • DIN 4102 (fire behaviour of building materials and building components, national)
  • DIN EN 13501 (classification of construction products and building elements according to their fire behaviour, European)
  • DIN EN 1364-1 (fire resistance testing for non-loadbearing elements, guidelines for fire testing)
  • DIN 18008-4 (glass in building construction, additional requirements for barrier glazing)
  • EN 16034 (fire- and smoke-control doors, harmonised standard)

Environmental certification

Consistent certification according to Cradle to Cradle

Our products are not only market leaders in terms of technology and aesthetics, but also ecologically: AGC Glass Europe has been certifying its glazing in accordance with Cradle to Cradle – a strict testing system for sustainability and recyclability – since 2010, making it the pioneer for sustainability in the glass industry. ‘C2C’ describes the sustainability of a product over its entire life cycle. For certification, it must fulfil strict requirements in five categories: Material health, recyclability, renewable energy, water consumption and social responsibility.

AGC Glass Europe has the world’s most comprehensive portfolio of glass products that have been recognised at bronze and silver level.
