Environmental management
AGC Glass Europe has set itself the goal of being climate-neutral by 2050.
Committed to sustainability
We regard sustainability as a fundamental part of our social and ecological corporate values and as a guiding principle for all our activities.Sustainability requires continuous improvement and involves all employees.
Measuring our CO2-footprint
We annually assess our CO2-footprint and disclose our company-wide greenhouse gas emissions across our entire value chain, ensuring transparency and accountability.
Net-zero emissions by 2050
AGC Glass Europe has committed to reaching the AGC Group objectives of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. And the transitional milestone of 30% reduction in GHG emissions by 2030.
Leading the decarbonization of our industry
In order to achieve CO2-neutral glass production, all parts of the supply chain must be taken into account. This includes the decarbonization of glass production processes as well as the elimination of all CO2 emissions from the supply chain upstream of our processes and other indirect emissions.
What have we already achieved in decarbonizing our production?
AGC Glass Europe has drawn up a roadmap to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Glass is the core of sustainable architecture
We have been at the forefront of developing new glass products with better environmental performance for decades. Glass has a positive impact on people and the planet. As an increasingly sustainable material, it is at the heart of sustainable architecture.
Our positive impact on the environment
For every ton of CO2 emitted by our activities, more than 9 tons of CO2 are avoided by using our glass!
Low-Carbon-Glass
With the launch of our low-carbon glass in 2022, we are offering our customers a basic glass that saves CO2 from the extraction of raw materials to installation. We are constantly expanding the available range of low-carbon products.
Sustainable buildings
Glass is a unique building material because, as functional insulation glass, it offers excellent thermal insulation and numerous other functions while also allowing daylight and solar energy gains. As a result, AGC glass products help reduce energy consumption for heating, cooling, and artificial lighting.
EPD (Environmental Product Declaration)
AGC Glass Europe’s ‘Glass Configurator’ enables architects and planners to calculate the light and radiation physical properties of glazing and create attractive configurations tailored to their needs. This comprehensive tool has now been expanded to include the calculation of ‘Environmental Product Declarations’ (EPD), which provide a comprehensive and concise overview of the environmental impacts of numerous products based on a complete life cycle assessment.
Glass scrap recycling
Glass is endlessly recyclable like no other product. Our main goal is to use as much recycled glass (called cullet) as possible in our production processes. Using more recycled glass means that fewer raw materials and therefore less energy are needed to reach the melting point in the furnace. This leads to the production of glass with less bound CO2, such as our low-carbon glass range.
Cradle to Cradle certification
The Cradle to Cradle Certified® product program is an approach that evaluates the overall sustainability of a product over its entire life cycle. It extends the definition of quality to include positive impacts on economic, environmental and social health. To achieve certification, products must meet strict standards in five categories relating to health and environmental protection: Material health, recyclability, air and climate protection, responsibility for water and soil, and social fairness.
In 2010, AGC was the first European glass manufacturer to receive C2C certification for float glass and its magnetron-coated glass. Since then, the range of certified products has been constantly expanded.
